The Missouri Technology Corporation (MTC) is a public-private partnership created by the Missouri General Assembly to promote entrepreneurship and foster the growth of new and emerging high-tech companies. MTC focuses on 21st Century bioscience industries that build on Missouri’s rich history in agriculture.
Dr. Stan Baker is a chemical engineer, attorney and veterinarian. A member of Husch Blackwell’s Food & Agribusiness team, he brings on-the-ground knowledge of medicine, law and technology to serve the specialized needs of the animal health industry, representing legacy corporations and startup innovators alike. A large part of his legal practice focuses on issues related to technology commercialization, including domestic and international intellectual property and regulatory issues. He also advises business and investment entities regarding investment opportunities in animal health and is a member of two seed funds.
Stan maintains his license to practice veterinary medicine and is a strong advocate for the animal health industry. His unique background allows him to analyze, advance and resolve animal health issues from clinical, business and legal perspectives.

Jeff is a serial entrepreneur and investor with over 30 years of global life sciences experience. Jeff’s emerging company and fund raising experience includes startups, growth stage and turnaround in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, drug delivery, medical devices, and clinical informatics. He is a Business Advisor to university investigators seeking early stage funding from the University City Science Center in Philadelphia. He is Chairman of ProteaPex Therapeutics focused on innovative animal health peptide therapeutics. Most recently he was President and CEO of the Center for Animal Health Innovation which focused on funding breakthrough technologies.
Dr. Al-Murrani has 25 years of life science experience within industry and academia. He has developed and managed operational budgets and high tech equipment purchasing contracts totaling around 25 million dollars. He has extensive business management skills and experience in executive coaching, life sciences investor due diligence, startup funding and the FDA/CVM driven regulatory requirements for multiple industries. He has excellent negotiation skills and has successfully negotiated multi-million dollar research, purchasing and intellectual property licensing contracts, advised on patent applications and provided subject matter expertise.
Dr. Al-Murrani earned his undergraduate degree in animal science from the University of Edinburgh and completed his Ph.D. in immunology/biochemistry at the Roslin Institute and the Department of Veterinary Pathology at the University of Edinburgh. He holds an M.B.A. from Baker University.
Jane is an animal health pharmaceutical industry executive with 25+ years experience working with multinational and small companies in Asia, the USA, Australia and New Zealand. She is the author of more than 35 publications in peer reviewed journals and has an established track record in global pharmaceutical product development, departmental restructuring/relocation and staff management, Asian R&D unit start up operations, outsourcing and business development. Her major achievements include development of global pharmaceutical products, including 5 new chemical entities, from Phase I to final regulatory approval and commercialization. Jane currently works as an independent consultant providing advice and assistance to companies evaluating and developing animal health products for the USA and other markets.
John is experienced in worldwide product introductions, sales management, market research, financial and business planning, and providing business valuations. At Brakke Consulting, John concentrates his activities on business analysis, transactions, and recruiting assignments. His financial background makes him the go-to person for evaluations of businesses and technologies that are either looking for a new owner or seeking to enter the market. He provides a quantitative slant on major strategic decisions. John also specializes in recruiting assignments for positions that are particularly difficult to fill. Previous to joining Brakke Consulting, Mr. Mannhaupt held several sales, product management, and marketing positions with Sandoz Corporation, a major pharmaceutical, chemical, and agricultural products firm that is now part of Novartis. John also held corporate financial positions with Occidental Petroleum and General Foods, which is now Kraft. He holds an MBA from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie-Mellon University and a B.S. in Mathematics from Iona College.
Ronald Meeusen, PhD

Ron is a founding partner of the Cultivian Sandbox Food and Ag Funds I and II. Ron has over 30 years of experience in bringing new technologies and products to market. He has led research and development for major corporation in agricultural chemicals, field crop and vegetable genetics and breeding, animal health, novel foods and industrial materials. His successful projects include the world’s first field trial of a genetically engineered crop trait in 1986, development and launch of one of the first insect and herbicide resistant corn hybrids in 1996, introduction of a trans-fat free canola oil, and development of dozens of new varieties of field and vegetable crops on three continents. Ron has been a frequent speaker at conferences, a consultant to Federal policy on biotechnology regulatory issues, and active in industry trade groups. Prior to forming Cultivian Ron led the expansion of the biotechnology research and development program of Dow AgroSciences, and founded a successful biopharmaceutical company, Immuneworks, Inc. Ron represents Cultivian on the board of directors of Allylix, Aratana, Proterro and Rivertop Renewables. He was also a member of the board of directors of Divergence, Inc. Divergence was sold to Monsanto Company in February of 2011. Ron holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in plant cell biology, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee in plant physiology.

Tony has an economics degree from Millikin University, Decatur, Ill., an MBA from the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis and attended the Private Equity and Venture Capital Executive Education Program at Harvard.
Susan Warren is a Branch Manager at Patterson Veterinary. Susan works with companies looking to enter the animal health market as well as established multinational animal health companies. Prior to joining Patterson, Susan operated her own consulting firm advising companies and veterinary practices on business development, new product launches, sales training, and management coaching. Susan’s 25+ years of industry experience included sales and marketing management positions with IDEXX Laboratories, Quest Diagnostics and Ortho Clinical Diagnostics.
